Liberian Senate Approves National Tourism Authority Bill Introduced By Hon. Bernard Benson

In a landmark decision, the Liberian Senate has concurred with the House of Representatives on the establishment of the National Tourism Authority, a move poised to enhance the growth and development of Liberia’s tourism industry.

According to a statement released by the House Press Bureau on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the Senate’s approval paves the way for the separation of the tourism sector from the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT). This shift is expected to provide dedicated oversight and strategic development for Liberia’s tourism landscape.

The legislation to create the National Tourism Authority was initially passed by the House of Representatives in September 2024. It was introduced by Montserrado County District 17 Representative and Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Broadcasting, Culture, and Tourism, Honorable Bernard Benson Jr.

The newly proposed authority will be tasked with overseeing and promoting Liberia’s tourism sector, attracting investments, and fostering economic opportunities within the industry.

With Senate approval secured, the bill now awaits the President’s signature before being printed into handbills, thereby formalizing the establishment of the National Tourism Authority.
