Hon. Bernard Blue Benson serves as part of the House Leadership, serving as the Chairman on the Committee of Information Broadcast, Culture and Tourism. He is also a member of the House Committee on Mines and Energy and the House Committee on Post and Telecommunication. In addition, Hon. Benson is a member of the Montserrado Caucus and also a member of the Coalition for Democratic Change Legislative Caucus.

ELECTRICITY

Distribution of Electricity to the entire district including Rural Communities, Towns and Villages remains the top priority of Hon. Benson District developmental agenda. Working with the Liberia Electricity Corporation and other implementing partners completed and dedicated the GAP Project that provided electricity as Far as Bible College, Central Brewerville. The second phase of the district electrification project have commenced with funding from the World Bank through an implementing partner call Wilkins Engineering.

ROADS MAINTENANCE, DEVELOPMENT AND CONNECTIVITY

HON. Benson Believes that Roads development and connectivity accelerate developments. The Office oof Hon. Benson completed a major maintenance and renovation of all major district roads including the construction of the Virginia/Artington bridge and the development of 27Km of road from Iron Gate to the city of Artington. 2 bridges are also being reconstructed in Cheesmanburg as part of the 2024 Legislature project.

The Government of Liberia has commenced the development and Pavement of the VOA Road to Kpallah Junction and the development and Maintenance of the Brewerville Store to Gbarpolu Corridor.

Developmemt of the road from Ricks junction to Gedema through Gbondoi will commence March 2025 while plans are in placed for the development of the Kormah to Artington Corridor including the reconstruction of the Jartu Town Bridge as our 2025 Legislative Project.

HEALTH CARE

Road access to 2 Community Health Centers including total renovation, access to pipe borne water and solar power installation for the Gbondoi Community Health Center and solar power repair for the Bromley Health Center will be completed in March 2025 from revenue received from the social development funds. Our office is also working with the Ministry of Health and other partners to make sure that drugs and other medical support are provided to these government institutions to better serve the District.

We are also elated to announce that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have awarded a contract in the amount of USD$168,029.24 for the renovation and equipment donation at the Artington Hospital. Construction is currently on going.

The Blue Foundation also affords free medical assistance to communities, towns and villages in District 17 since 2016. Our Free Ambulance service provides Free emergency transportation to the nearest referral Hospitals in and out of the District.

ACADEMICS / SCHOLARSHIPS

Schools Renovations including provisions of chairs and other essential learning materials for both Teachers and Students are key on our agenda. We are currently engaging the Ministry of Education and other development partners for the addition of computer labs in selected High Schools around the District. This year our office will complete needed structural renovation on the Jah Tondo Town Public School and the Bamboo Town Public School.

The Blue Foundation scholarship initiative is also helping to alleviate tuition hardship on parents with the provision of over 200 scholarships in 2024 and is working to double the recipients in 2025. The Scholarship is distributed to over 16 Jr. and Sr. High schools including Elementary and Trade schools. Please press the donation button and be a blessing to a student or a struggling family.

SPORTS & RECREATION

Direct support to community recreational activities including sponsorship of CommunityLeagues and  Tournaments, Sponsorship of the District Football team have been a priority to the office of Hon. Blue. In 2024 the office of Hon. Benson contributed over $1.3M to the District Football team that saw them reaching as far as the Semi Finals of the 2024 Montserrado County District League.

Plans for the Construction of District 17 Soccer Stadium and Recreational Center is ongoing and will be display and presented at the 2025 district sitting in Artington.
